OVEN-BAKED TRADITION

THE PERFECT FOOD FOR YOUR PET

Oven-baked Tradition is fantastic in every way

This is the only food you should be feeding your pet!

Oven-Baked Tradition is a Canadian family-owned business that prides itself on providing your pet outstanding organically baked food, made exclusively at Bio Biscuit company, in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.  Since 2006, the Lemieux family has worked prodigiously to create the highest standards in dog and cat food. In fact, the company has an R & D department with specialists, a quality control laboratory, impeccable equipment with stellar standards.

Zak, my Maltese lhasa apso dog is the pickiest of eaters, and has had several ailments from the get-go.  I was feeding him vet-recommended hard food that really was difficult for him to eat, and he hated the taste. It became very discouraging to see his bowl full of kibbles; nothing was touched. Sometimes, he wouldn't eat the stuff for two days, and that is when I knew I had to find a food that he would gobble up - a food that contained every healthy, nonchemical bio-based ingredient possible without compromising on taste appeal, I wanted 100% purity - excluding all that dangerous stuff that most of us can’t even read - let alone feel good about putting it in our pet’s stomach.

                                                     The Happiness Factor

I set out to discover a nutritious food that he would like. I chanced upon Oven-Baked Tradition at a local Mondou store in Montreal, and took home a few samples. It was like night and day. He loved it! His tail wagged; he had more energy, and best of all, he seemed to revert to puppy playfulness, even at the age of 14 years and nine months! Judging by how fast he ate it up - no coaxing needed now - he obviously found it all delicious.  And when I introduced him to the wet food which is also 100% organic – a pate made with quail and the other - a pate made with rabbit, he was in gourmet heaven. organic.  In fact, they are enlarging their line of wet food. Nice for dogs with teeth issues.

Heaps of Health Packed into its Flavorful Food

Why is my dog responding to this food with such eagerness? Why does he love it so much? Each bag contains palette pleasing real food, and each morsel is made without wheat, corn, soy, bovine products, artificial flavors and GMD. The Lemieux family who owns the business stresses that the manufacturing process is unique as it uses slow baking at low temperatures which allows for nutrients not to be lost, nor natural flavors. Its fresh fish recipe is prepared with fruits and vegetables, and like its crunchy companions, it’s completely holistic, devoid of hormones or antibiotics. This slow baking process is their modus operandi for all their pet food products and as the Lemieux family explains, this process increases nutrition ingredient density – a super food that tackles allergy and digestion issues, strengthens the immune system and joints.

Another attractive aspect to Oven-Baked Tradition, is the variety of food it offers for both dogs and cast. For dogs, it considers all breeds and its kibbles cater to five different sizes of dogs. You ’ve got lamb, fish and their chicken has been especially created for puppies as well as adults to address weight control. They have also put out a grain-free line for dogs of all sizes in different flavors as well.

 The Total Package

Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids, glucosamine, chondroitin, fruits and vegetables come in all bite sizes baked for small, medium and large dogs. Zak won’t go to sleep without oven baked packages surrounding him, because he knows he’s going to wake up to them in the morning.

                                                        Terrific treats

Most of the treats we buy for our pets are not uber-healthy, but we still feed our pet with them, whether it be for training or simply as a snack, or even for doing nothing.  The awesome assortment of 19 treats at Oven-Baked Traditions lives by the motto: variety is the spice of life. They include: dental for good breath care, chicken with pumpkin, liver, duck, meatballs, sweet potato and yummy bacon flavor – that is really popular for training. These goodies are organically concocted and baked with no additives or preservatives of any kind.  I enjoy changing treats, and I can with this company. It spoils our dogs with beef treats, even meatballs, sweet potato goodies, and liver – to name a few.

😻 I can’t attest to how happy your cat is going to be feasting on their line for cats, but I bet you’ll have instant success. I truly believe it will contribute kidney health for your cat.

Lakshmi Health Store, San Miguel de Allende

Your one-stop health home

Reviewed by Nancy Snipper

Lackshmi is the Indian God of body and health. This remarkable store is aptly named, for it contains a myriad of organic products to promote your well-being from the inside out.
Silvia Carranza who owns this unique one-stop “hospital of health”, cares about your needs, and most importantly, guides you to the right products – all natural and notably effective. I took the collagen/botox cream along with an anti-inflammation under-the-eye gel. The cream for my body worked like a tonic for dry skin; I also snagged that one.
But Lakshmi also provides a full gamut of hands-on therapies: Reiki, massage biomagnetitism – to name a few, plus there is a homeopathic doctor you can consult with along with a nutritionist. This unique place offers so many health assets, aside from pills, herbs and organic edibles. There is even at-home night care service. How wonderful is that?!

La Floret

The Flower Shop with the Loveliest Flowers and Owner

Reviewed by Nancy Snipper

When I moved to Verdun, something drew me into La Floret. As soon as I walked in, a splendid array of flowers greeted my senses, and along with this, the winning sweet smile of the store’s owner, Antonia. No hard sell with her; she just oozes sublime gentleness and humility.
Antonia has a Greek background, and as we all know, the Greeks are known for their generosity and hospitality. Every time I need a flower boost and a chance to feel happy by chatting with her, I always go to la Floret.
I end up walking out with my favourite flower: Casablanca lilies, and her prices are a steal.
Antonia donated heaps of bouquets and arrangements to the launch of my poetry/short story book, Beyond the Dream, Epic Solitude (see SMR Culture Plus). I honestly think it was her spirit of giving and the floral arrangements she made for the event helped get my book off the ground and into dream land.
Immerse yourself in the calming atmosphere of La Floret, meet Antonia and take time to smell the flowers. I am sure, you will not walk out of there empty handed.
She can handle any occasion: weddings, graduation, birthdays and more.

MMM… Muthins!

Eating my favourite muffin and feeling thin

by Nancy Snipper

The other day I was at the Monkland Street Fair in Montreal where a ton of activities were going on, including tastings of new products.

I indulged myself, but there was one foodie that I can’t forget: Muthins

Ali (left) and Nancy (right) at the Monkland Street Fair

It’s a muffin that is so tasty and yet is only 90 calories. Everything inside is natural too. Of course, it is. That’s because the recipe goes back to 1985, and Ali Beloff, who has just started the company told me her mom is a nutritionist, and her inspiration to get these wonderful 100% all-natural bran muffins into everyone’s diet. There are seven different kinds and each one is as tasty as the next. I loved the lemon poppy seed one and the raisin. I can hardly wait to go back and purchase the other fruit flavours. Nothing was dry in texture!

I was so curious about this MUthin magnificent muffin, I asked Ali to tell me all about this muffin and why it is so different than those other health ones. Here’s what she said:
“What makes MUthins different than all the other healthy "muffin men”? Well first off, we’re muffin women, but more importantly, ours don’t taste like saw dust – they’re actually quite moist! Our secret recipe is a derivative of our mother’s, Leslie Beloff  – a certified nutritionist – thus adding an element of authenticity to everything that we do.

Our flavours include: carrot, raisin, banana, chocolate-chip, lemon-poppy seed, apple-cinnamon and blueberry! With a MUthin in hand, you know you’re snacking the healthy way. Our mission is to help our community attain and maintain healthier lifestyles, one MUthin at a time”.

The MUthin Muffin story – a real girlie one
I asked her how it got started. Here is her “big MUthin reveal.

“Growing up in the Beloff household, the promotion of health, nutrition and the appreciation for local, fresh whole foods was always at the forefront”. Ali said that all of these essential values were instilled by founders, Chelsea and Ali’s mother, Leslie Beloff – the original MUthin women.

“Studying nutrition at McGill in her early 20’s and graduating as a certified nutritionist, our mom recognized the high need and empty gap in the Montreal food market for healthy snacking. Starting in 1985, she began her very own health muffin company with a line of ground-breaking 56-calorie muffins.”

In 2011, Chelsea and Ali, along with a best friend, Jennifer, revamped their mother’s recipe – adding a few more calories with a whole-lot more flavor.
And thus, the MUthin was born!
Keeping her mother’s values dear to her heart, Ali grabbed the steering wheel in the MUthins kitchen in 2015, with an everlasting urge to innovate with new MUthin flavours, shapes and derivatives to accommodate her community’s wants and needs.
Muthins is currently distributing to local health food stores, grocery stores, gyms, cafés, fitness centers, business offices and homes all across Montreal and the greater Quebec area.

Visit: www.muthins.ca. You can order your favorite muffin off the website. They come in a six-pack or are individually wrapped for on-the-go gals.
Wholesalers welcome!

THE GIMBO BED

Healing the body with heated stones
on San Miguel’s Gimbo bed

by Nancy Snipper

It’s magic – just like the city itself. Set yourself down on a hard bamboo bed under which is a thousand semi-precious stones that are heated to work their magnetic energies as they penetrate your body to basically banish your imbalances and chronic illnesses. The stones are red amethyst, black jade, Biotitic, germanio,  yakodol, kiyoseki and cheongwang. Their healing specifics include, blocking electromagnetic, radiation, negative ions, augmentation of energy and body temperature, anti-oxidant and balancing and heightening energies.
Before I lay on my bed, I had to drink a special half-bottle of water from Queretaro (a nearby city) that was ionized and alkaline balanced. This was to rid your body of the toxins that circulated in the body at a heightened rate due to these beds that do indeed bring the blood toxins to the surface to be expelled after drinking the rest of the bottle of water after your 40-minute treatment. I don/t understand the total process, but the easy-to-read booklet plus a video are there to examine. I know that there is a grand benefit to what happens to you once you immerse yourself in Gimbo therapy
I met women there who are diabetic, arthritic and suffering from nerve diseases. They attest to their wellbeing of better health through these Gimbo beds.
I loved the heat, circulating into my body and witnessed the power of these stones before I tried the treatment. My attendant put a little magnet into a cup on the bed and it spun around in circles. The hot spot for the bed is marked with amethyst.
How did I feel after? Renewed, energized, and my back pain was gone.
This Korean invention is over 1000 years old. It is recommended for those suffering from over 22 illnesses, including Parkinson, rheumatism, obesity, migraines, even tumors.
Is Gimbo a god for well being or a mere gizmo? You decide.
